Cayo Lara Moya (born January 29, 1952 in Argamasilla de Alba , Ciudad Real province ) is a Spanish politician of the Partido Comunista de España (PCE) and head of the Izquierda Unida (IU) party alliance .

Life

He left school at the age of 13 to support his father, a transport company. After returning from military service , he became a farmer at the age of 23 . Lara was mayor of his hometown between 1987 and 1999. Since 2000 he has been the successor to Gaspar Llamazares coordinador general of the Izquierda Unida in Castilla-La Mancha .

In September 2011 he was elected as the lead candidate for the post of Prime Minister for the Spanish parliamentary elections on November 20, 2011 .
