The Gasthaus zur Krone is a listed farmstead in Hauptstrasse 68 in Otterberg .
history
Before that, the “Zum Anker” inn stood at this point. In 1778 the new building was built by Council Mayor Jakob Seitz. However, he later moved to Bad Kreuznach . The typical, agricultural property was an exception in the townscape of Otterberg. Since the beginning of the 19th century it has served as the “Zur Krone” inn in a good location near the abbey church in the middle of the city. From 1895 to 1948 it was owned by Johannes Gimbel's family. After that it was sold by Hans Eymann. In 1986 the half-timbered structure was uncovered and after extensive renovation the inn was reopened in May 1987 in the former stables behind the main building on the church square. Today the Krone is a Greek restaurant.
architecture
The two-storey inn with a gable roof is an elongated late Baroque half-timbered building (marked 1778). The ground floor of the main house is made of stones, the upper floor and the gable are half-timbered. To the east there is a farm building that houses the restaurant. The courtyard between the buildings is open to the church square.
