Gaston Gelos

Rafael Gastón Gelós , also known as Gaston Gelos (born January 8, 1969 ) is a German- Uruguayan economist . He heads the Monetary and Macroprudential Policy Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Career

Gelos was a student at the German School Montevideo. He later studied at the Universities of Bonn and Berkeley , and obtained in 1998 his doctorate ( Ph.D. ) at the University of Yale . Afterwards he was a representative of the IMF in Argentina and Uruguay. He then headed the “Global Financial Stability Analysis” department from 2013 to 2017, where he was responsible for the analytical area of ​​the Global Financial Stability Report . In 2017 he also headed the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) for Japan.

He is the author of scientific publications on macroeconomic, monetary and financial stability issues.
