Gat Decor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gat Decor (also Gat Décor ) is a house music act, best known for his 1992 song "Passion". This title is considered to be one of the first early works of the Progressive House genre. British DJ and music producer Simon Slater is behind Gat Decor . Slater was born in London. From 1984 to 1990 he was resident DJ at the Xenon disco and from 1990 to 1993 at the Valbonne disco - both in London. The name 'Gat Decor' was derived from an anagram from 'Tag Records', a record store in Soho, London .

Although Gat Decor does not have a large music catalog apart from five single releases and a little more than a handful of remixes , the act and the song "Passion" had a great influence on dance music in the early 1990s. Slater still operates the official website of Gat Decor and holds the rights to the song "Passion".

"Passion"

"Passion" is Gat Decors best known work. The song was released in 1992 on the Effective Records record label, initially had great success in underground dance clubs and eventually became a hit in the UK Top 40 , where it climbed to position 29. The 12 "single contained the original song, an instrumental version (The Naked Mix) and a remix by Darren Emerson, who made his debut as a remixer with this track.

Since its original version, “Passion” has been officially and unofficially reissued several times until today. A version released in 1996 with the subtitle "Do You Want It Right Now Mix" and an alienated voice from Beverley Skeete climbed to position 6 in the UK . This remix was a 4-minute version of the 1992 instrumental version with the newly recorded Vocal line “Do You Want It Right Now?” By Degrees of Motion.

In 1996 the song was number 33 in the list of the “50 Most Influential Records of All Time” in the British Mixmag magazine. In addition, Mixmag magazine and its readers voted the song 22nd of the “100 best dance singles of all time”.

In 2002 a white label remix was released in which the tracks “Passion” and “Frozen” were mixed together. The original song "Frozen" was written by the American singer Madonna .

"Passion" is still often played in clubs today in both its original and various reissued versions .
