Gatzen , even just gauze, was a Bavarian measure of volume. A distinction was made between milk, beer and Maßgatzen, but they were all almost the same in size. A quarter of a gatz became dialect to Gätzlein or Gatzl. It was actually ¼ measure. Gatzen meant copper dishes, especially for scooping and measuring liquids.
