The Gavilán G358 (German: Sperber) is a light multi-purpose aircraft from the Colombian manufacturer El Gavilán SA
History and construction
Aero Mercantil in Bogota , originally founded as an air taxi company, began servicing and selling primarily Piper aircraft in 1952 . From 1968, aircraft were also assembled from kits. The subsidiary El Gavilan SA worked on the development of a single-engine touring aircraft, the G358, from 1986.
The G358 is a stripped high- wing aircraft in all-metal construction with a rectangular fuselage cross-section and a non-retractable nose wheel landing gear. The machine is powered by a Textron Lycoming IO-540-W2A six-cylinder boxer engine with 261 kW and can also take off and land on unprepared slopes. The fuselage has doors on both sides of the cockpit and a large cargo door on the left. The prototype first flew on April 27, 1990.
In 2012 Cub Crafters acquired the rights to the machine and began further development with a turboprop engine.
