nature

The islands were designated as an area of particular natural beauty in 2000.

Since the late 1960s, the University of Lund has been recording the flora of small Aegean islands in order to show changes in the number of species and population sizes due to various environmental influences. The four islands Platy, Tourleta, Makedonas and Akamatis are located in the study area and were first visited in 1968, since 1985 every five years.
