The Ngbaka is a Uubang language spoken by a million people in the Congo .

It is a regionally important language and is used by the Gilima , Ngbundu , Mbandja and Mono peoples . The language is also used as the language of instruction in primary schools; however, only 10 percent can read and write Ngbaka. Recently, French, the official language of the Congo, has increasingly taken on the status of regional language.

There are no significant dialectal differences within the Ngbaka, and it is mutually intelligible to other members of the Gbaya dialect continuum .
