The Gbe languages / g͡be / are a group of around 20 similar languages ​​spoken in an area stretching from eastern Ghana to western Nigeria . The number of speakers of Gbe languages ​​is between four and eight million. The most common is Ewe (3 million speakers in Ghana and Togo ) followed by Fon (1.7 million speakers mainly in Benin ). The Gbe languages ​​used to be counted among the Kwa languages within the Niger-Congo languages , belong to the West Benue-Congo languages and consist of five major dialect groups: Ewe , Fon, Adja , Gen and Phla-Pherá .
