The building and dwelling register ( GWR for short or AGWR for address, building and dwelling register ) is an official register with data on land, buildings and dwellings maintained by Statistics Austria .

The register contains the addresses of all land, buildings, apartments and other units of use in Austria, including detailed descriptions. The term address is understood to mean a location with spatial reference that is located verbally and with coordinates. In the GWR, a building address consists of the municipality, the town, the street and the orientation number, including postcode and other information; for land, the cadastral municipality is also given. Addresses of apartments (door or top number) relate to building addresses. All land and buildings are also recorded with legal and high values ​​from the Austrian Federal Registration Network. In the case of buildings, characteristics such as area, building type, construction period, building status, number of floors, connections (water, gas ...), heating, etc. are specified.

The (building authorities of the) municipalities are obliged to register. The data are made available to other authorities and user groups to varying degrees and are also generally available.

The building and housing register was set up in 2004 and significantly expanded in 2010 as Adress-GWR II .
