Prayer beads (prayer form)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A prayer chain is an intense form of intercession in which several prayers take turns keeping prayer times, so that over a longer period of time they pray continuously day and night. A single prayer time usually lasts 1 to 3 hours. Some prayer chains simply consist of praying regularly (e.g. once a day) for certain issues, rather than continuously.

Prayer chains are organized by evangelical and charismatically oriented Christians in particular to avert special emergencies or to put a place, a group, an event or a particularly exposed person under God's protection.

The special attraction of a prayer chain is based on the idea that uninterrupted prayer is like an eternal fire that never goes out, but burns constantly on God's altar. Eternal fire or light plays a role in many cults , including in the Christian tradition.

Long-lasting prayer chains are also known as 24-hour prayer or guardian prayer . A famous historical example of this is the prayer vigil of the Moravian Brethren , where, from August 27, 1727, people prayed continuously day and night for 120 years.
