Ready-to-use rinsing solution

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ready-to- use rinsing solutions are special syringes for rinsing venous vascular access of all kinds. Pre-filled rinsing systems reduce the risk of contamination of the rinsing solution , as the solution does not have to be drawn up manually. In addition, flushing systems are clearly labeled and packaged transparently so that they cannot be confused with, for example, medication syringes.

backgrounds

Insufficient flushing of peripheral venous and central venous catheters causes medicaments , nutrients and blood components to be deposited on the inside of the catheter - through backflow into the catheter. Chemical reactions of drugs as well as the adherence of bacteria and the formation of biofilms can trigger bacteremia and even sepsis if the bacteria get into the vascular system.

Regular flushing of the catheter and changing of the tubes connected to them are therefore essential. If doctors, nurses and carers draw up saline solution from an ampoule or a multi-dose container using a syringe , the solution can be contaminated with germs. Current studies show that this is the case with eight percent of all self-made rinsing solutions *.
