Bacteremia

As bacteremia the temporary presence is by bacteria called in the blood, which is no proliferation of these bacteria and therefore no Absiedelung ( metastasis ) in organs coming. Such bacterial seeding can occur as part of a bacterial infection, during diagnostic or therapeutic interventions (e.g. dental treatment), but also when brushing the teeth.

In poor immune status of the host and constant or routine Einschwemmung from a stove ( focus ) into the bloodstream the bacteria from multiplying and thus the dreaded is sepsis (colloquially: blood poisoning) favored.

Bacteremia is detected with a blood culture .

The presence of viruses in the blood is called viraemia , and that of fungi is called fungemia or mycemia .
