history

The west tower

The church was consecrated to St. Gertrude von Nivelles until the Reformation . The oldest part of the building is the choir, closed on five sides, from the 13th century. It is joined to the north by the so-called Liebfrauenchor, which is just closing to the east. The 14th century sacristy is located south of the main choir.

The construction of a three-aisled nave began around 1350 and was completed in the first half of the 15th century as a single-aisle structure with four bays. The fourth yoke is connected to the north and south of the transept-like side chapels. In 1494 the nave was extended by a yoke to the west and the addition of the massive church tower began.
