Guitarama prison

The prison Gitarama is one of about fifteen prisons in the country of Rwanda .

After the genocide in Rwanda , the Guitarama prison was seized with the accused. Designed for 500 people, there were around 7,000 inmates here in April 1995, around 5 to 10 of whom died every day.

In 2011, not all inmates were charged. Around 6,700 people lived there, including 500 women, 171 minors and 50 children, some of whom were born behind bars.
