Joint stiffness

Joint stiffness means the partial or complete limitation of the range of motion of a joint , in particular:

  • the joint contracture , a function and movement restriction of joints, caused by the shortening of surrounding soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, ligaments and fasciae (ICD-10 M24.5)
  • the ankylosis of a joint, a complete joint stiffness (ICD-10 M24.6)
  • the condition after arthrodesis , surgical joint stiffening (ICD-10 Z98.1)

According to ICD-10, joint stiffness is classified under M25.6 unless it is classified elsewhere.
