Range of motion

Range of motion of the elbow

The range of motion (normal values) describes the average mobility of the joints of an adult. The measured values are used in physiotherapy to collect findings and evaluate a joint. For a meaningful assessment, the measurement always takes place in a side-by-side comparison.

For example, the normal values of the elbow are 10 ° in extension (extension) and 150 ° in flexion (flexion).

The physiotherapist uses a medical protractor to determine the range of motion . In the medical field, the documentation of the extent of movement is usually based on the neutral-zero method .
