The municipality Lohja ( Finnish Lohjan kunta , Swedish Lojo kommun ), until 1977 rural municipality Lohja ( Finnish Lohjan maalaiskunta , Swedish Lojo landskommun ), is a former municipality in Finland . It comprised the area around the city of Lohja in the southern Finnish countryside of Uusimaa .

The rural community Lohja was established in 1926 when the main town of Lohja was separated from the surrounding rural community as an independent market town ( kauppala ). The rural community had an area of ​​262 km² and last 18,783 inhabitants (1992). In 1987, 7% of Finland's population was Swedish . At the beginning of 1997, the rural community was incorporated into Lohja, which had meanwhile received city rights. In the course of the municipality merger, the city of Lohja took over the coat of arms of the rural municipality.
