The municipal council and mayoral elections in Upper Austria in 2009 took place on September 27, 2009 and were held at the same time as the state elections in 2009 in 444 Upper Austrian municipalities. On October 11, 2009 runoff elections for mayoral elections took place in 37 municipalities . A total of 1,115,743 people were eligible to vote.

Suffrage

Right to vote

Austrian citizens and non-Austrian EU citizens who are not excluded from the right to vote, who have their main residence in the respective municipality and who have reached the age of 16 on election day are entitled to vote.

Passive suffrage

Those persons who have the active right to vote and who have reached the age of 18 on election day at the latest are eligible to vote.
