occupation

Gemini Division was an American television series launched in 2008 and produced by Brent Friedman. The series consists of short sequences between 2 and 5, occasionally 8 minutes. The total length is therefore only 3 hours and 32 minutes.

action

The series begins with a video call that Anna Diaz accepts for a friend. Here you find out that she is in Paris with her boyfriend Nick Korda and that he has proposed to her. Anna Diaz is an undercover cop in New York. When a stranger apparently observed the two of them while sightseeing and shortly afterwards their boyfriend was shot, she took up the investigation on her own and discovered in the course of the series a worldwide conspiracy around the secret organization "Gemini Division" and artificial people disguised as humans (simulated) life forms, called Sims.

concept

A special feature of the series is not only the brevity of the individual episodes, but their design. The episodes are filmed mainly from the viewpoint of a cell phone that the protagonist Anna Diaz uses. She speaks like in a chat with a conversation partner, about whom one does not learn anything further and who has no influence on the action. These sequences are structured like a video call, which the other person only then listens to / looks at. The action takes place here from the narrative perspective. Flashbacks that show part of the plot are also shown between these calls. These are visual memories so that the viewer can better understand the story told by Anna Diaz. During the calls you can occasionally see recordings that Anna Diaz previously made with her cell phone and that are now being played back during the call.

Most episodes contain only one, and some episodes contain multiple calls within a series.

The first episode starts with Anna Diaz, who is using a cell phone to record a call. All further episodes start with the fact that by operating the cell phone (from the view of the cell phone user) the location is determined on a world map and the cell phone's recording application is started.

Nothing is learned about the exact model of the cell phone, as it is not important for the action. The applications on the device and the location detection make it clear, however, that it is a mobile device with a Microsoft operating system. The Windows logo, Messenger and other Microsoft products are recognizable in the introductory sequence. The Windows Mobile lettering is displayed when the location is recognized. In the course of the series you can also see other manufacturers or their logos, such as the Cisco logo during a phone call made by Anna Diaz's partner Nick Korda.

Since these are supposed to be calls or video recordings that the protagonists record with a cell phone, the video quality of the episodes does not correspond to the typical standard. Many pictures are blurred or out of focus, appear lighter or darker, or backgrounds are difficult to see.

Charisma

In July 2010, the series was broadcast by ProSieben from Tuesday to Friday at night. After episode 17 the broadcast was stopped.

At the same time, the series could be viewed on the station's website. All episodes are still fully available on the MyVideo portal .

In 2011 and 2012 the broadcaster TNT Serie showed the series twice, but not in the original order.
