Gen Rosso
Gen Rosso is a musical group of the Focolare Movement .
Emergence
Gen Rosso was created in Loppiano near Florence in 1966 on the initiative of Chiara Lubich . The founder of the Focolare Movement gave a group of young men a guitar and red drums for Christmas. The group name is derived from this red drum kit: "rosso", Italian "red". Also in 1966, the women's group Gen Verde started with a green drum kit. "Gen" stands for Movimento Gen (Generazione Nuova).
Since 1966, more than 200 artists and technicians have worked for Gen Rosso. Gen Rosso currently consists of 18 members from 10 countries.
Gen Rosso published about 325 songs on 54 albums, including the evening song Resta qui con noi (Eng. "Stay here with us").
Since 2002, Gen Rosso has been running the “ Strong Without Violence ” education program in Germany, Brazil, the Czech Republic and Argentina. Young people from mostly socially disadvantaged backgrounds study the musical Streetlight with the members of Gen Rosso and perform it together. The feature documentary I AM HERE will be released from 2016 ! by Tobias Greber on the creation and implementation of the project.
