Field Marshal Lieutenant

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Generalfeldmarschallleutnant was a military rank very similar to the field marshal lieutenant . It appeared at the same time as that of the General Field Marshal in the 17th century. The warlord used to add a "lieutenant" to a field marshal general, who had to support and represent the field marshal.

Notes and individual references

  1. Since the rank was created before the spelling reform and also abolished before it, one often finds the spelling Generalfeldmarschalleutnant or Generalfeldmarschall-Lieutenant instead of Generalfeldmarschall-Leutnant or Generalfeldmarschallleutnant in historical texts.
