Career
Like most motorsport enthusiasts , Clarke began his career in karting , where he was active from 1994 to 2000. He then switched to the British Formula Ford and won the BRDC classification. In 2002 he competed in the junior classification of the British Formula Ford and finished fourth with two victories. In 2003 he started in the regular championship. After initially finishing twelfth overall, he stayed in the British Formula Ford in 2004 and was runner-up behind Valle Mäkelä with a win . He also took part in six British Formula Renault races.
In 2005 Clarke switched to the British Formula 3 championship and started as a team-mate of Bruno Senna for Raikkonen Robertson Racing . Clarke won a race and finished the season ahead of Senna in fifth place in the drivers' standings.
In 2006 the Briton signed a contract for the Champ Car Series with CTE-HVM Racing , where he became a team-mate of Nelson Philippe . While Philippe finished fourth overall with a race win, Clarke achieved a podium finish in third in Denver . In the overall standings he was twelfth. He was also the second best newcomer behind Will Power . In 2007 the racing driver stayed with his team that this season started as Minardi Team USA . As a teammate he received the former Formula 1 driver Robert Doornbos . He achieved his best placement in Elkhart Lake , where he finished the race in second place. In Zolder , after causing an accident with several racing cars during training, he was not allowed to take part in the race. Clarke could not keep up with his teammate, who finished third with two wins, and finished 13th overall at the end of the season. After the reunification of the Champ Car with the IndyCar Series , the Briton found no cockpit and did not compete in any races in 2008.
In early 2009 , Clarke took part in three A1GP series racing weekends for the British team . He also hoped to be able to compete again for the British team in the next season, but the A1GP was dissolved after a bankruptcy and Clarke was again without a cockpit. After Clarke took part in Formula 2 test drives in December 2009 , he returned to North America and started for Walker Racing in the Indy Lights . He replaced Jonathan Summerton from the second race of the 2010 season . At the end of the season he finished seventh overall with two second places as the best results.
In the following years, Clarke competed in a few sports car races and ended his driving career at the end of 2015.
