Tibor Elekes

Tibor Elekes (born May 3, 1960 ) is a Swiss-Hungarian double bass player who lives in Basel and works mainly in the field of contemporary jazz .

Elekes studied at the Swiss Jazz School from 1978 to 1983 and then continued his classical studies at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. He worked with musicians such as Clark Terry , Dino Saluzzi , Woody Shaw , Jeanne Lee , George Gruntz and Doug Hammond and, with Alvin Queen, was part of the Cedar Walton trio . Since 1991 he has been a member of the Kirk Lightsey trio , which also accompanied singer Othella Davis and (2006) Ricky Ford . In 1999 he founded a quartet with John Betsch and the cellist Muneer B. Fennell. With Florian and Michael Arbenz he formed the group new connexion , which also toured with Greg Osby . He also works as a music teacher.
