Florian Arbenz

Florian Arbenz (* 1975 in Basel ) is a Swiss jazz musician ( percussion , composition ).

Life

Florian Arbenz, who comes from a family of musicians, has been playing jazz together with his twin brother, the pianist Michael Arbenz , since his teenage years. In the field of classical music, he has performed as a percussionist at numerous concerts and festivals (e.g. at the Basler Musik Forum , the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival or the Lucerne Festival ), with Heinz Holliger , Kent Nagano and Paul Sacher , among others . There were also solo concerts in Europe and South America.

In recent years he has toured in various jazz formations with which he gave concerts all over Europe and recorded several albums. He worked with Greg Osby , Kirk Lightsey , Glenn Ferris , Bennie Maupin , Claudio Pontiggia and Matthieu Michel . Between 1995 and the beginning of the 2000s he worked with his brother in the New Jazz Trio , which released two albums. Since 2007 he has been touring regularly with the trio VEIN (with bassist Thomas Lähns and Michael Arbenz on piano) and until 2019 released 13 CDs with this band, some of which were expanded to include guest musicians. In 2001 he released the album Level 4 under his own name . He is also a member of the Tibor Elekes trio . In 2020 the duo album Reflections of the Eternal Line with saxophonist Greg Osby was released.

In 2000 Arbenz was awarded the European Prize for Young Artists for his commitment to jazz and classical music .
