Michael Arbenz

Michael Arbenz (* 1975 in Basel ) is a Swiss musician (piano, composition) who is best known in jazz .

Life

Arbenz, who comes from a family of musicians, has been playing jazz together with his twin brother Florian Arbenz (drums) since his teenage years. He completed a classical piano course. In the field of classical music he has performed at numerous concerts and festivals, including a. with Pierre Boulez , Paul Sacher , Jürg Wyttenbach , the Ensemble Contrechamps and Hans Zender .

In the last few years Arbenz was mainly active as a leader of various bands with whom he gave concerts all over Europe and recorded several albums. Between 1995 and the beginning of the 2000s he worked with his brother in the New Jazz Trio , which released two albums. Glenn Ferris and Marc Johnson played in his trio New Delegation (album Intuition , 2001).

In other music projects he brought together internationally known musicians such as Greg Osby , Wolfgang Puschnig , Muneer B. Fennell , Kent Carter , Matthieu Michel and Dave Liebman . Since 2007 he has been touring regularly with the trio VEIN (with bassist Thomas Lähns and Florian Arbenz on drums) and released 13 CDs with this formation by 2019, some of which were expanded to include guest musicians.

Arbenz is a piano teacher at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences .
