Ricky Ford ( Richard Allen Ford , born March 4, 1954 in Boston / Massachusetts ) is an American jazz saxophonist.

Ford studied at the New England Conservatory of Music . In 1974 he recorded works by Scott Joplin with the New England Conservatory Ragtime Ensemble under Gunther Schuller . He then toured with the Duke Ellington Orchestra under Mercer Ellington until 1976 . He then worked with Charles Mingus ( Cumbia & Jazz Fusion ), was a member of the Dannie Richmond quintet from 1978 to 1981 and of the Mingus Dynasty in 1982 and performed with Lionel Hampton , Amina Claudine Myers and Abdullah Ibrahim .

He also played a number of albums as a band leader. In the late 1980s he was artist-in-residence at Brandeis University , led his own band, recorded with McCoy Tyner's (Big) Band and toured Europe.
