Antoine Roney

Antoine Roney (born April 1, 1963 in Philadelphia ) is an American saxophonist and bass clarinetist of modern jazz .

Roney comes from a musical family. His grandfather, Roosevelt Sherman, played for Frankie Fairfax; the trumpeter Wallace Roney is his older brother. His father taught him to play drums when he was five; As a teenager he switched to the clarinet and from the alto to the tenor saxophone . After training at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts , he studied at Hart College with Jackie McLean and occasionally played with Clifford Jordan and Donald Byrd . In 1991 he became a member of his brother's band, with whom he also toured internationally; he was also involved in many of its recordings. He also founded his own groups. In 2001 he toured Europe with Al Foster . He has also worked on recordings of Jesse Davis , Cody Moffett , Cindy Blackman , Ricky Ford , Sarah Morrow and Michael Carvin . He also worked with Ted Curson , John Patton , Ravi Coltrane , Geri Allen , Chick Corea and Elvin Jones .
