Sarah Morrow
Sarah Amial Morrow (* 14. November 1969 in Houston , Texas ) is an American trombonist of modern jazz .
Live and act
Morrow, who grew up in Pickerington , Ohio , first learned to play the clarinet before deciding to play the trombone in the school band when she was twelve. At the age of seventeen she discovered jazz and played in the big band of Columbus , Ohio. She studied communication science at Ohio University and worked in administration, but also played in jazz bands and the Dayton Symphony Orchestra . There she was discovered by Ray Charles , who had two appearances with the orchestra, and became the first female instrumentalist who (between 1995 and 1997) worked in the orchestra and went on a world tour with him. Then she worked with funk musicians like Foley McCreary, Bootsie Collins, Cat Fish Collins, Fred Wesley , Jabo Starks and Clyde Stubblefield. In 1998 she went to Europe to accompany Dee Dee Bridgewater and was a member of the orchestra directed by Cecil Bridgewater . She also performed with Rico Rodriguez . Then she joined the Duke Ellington Orchestra for their European tour.
In 1999 she presented herself with her own group in France at the festivals in Clermont-Ferrand, Nancy and Paris; Musicians such as Jacky Terrasson , James Hurt , Scott Amendola and Ricky Ford joined her quintet for festival appearances . In 2001 she could also be heard in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the following year in France, Spain and Italy. In 2005 she received the Rising Star Award at the Irish Guinness Jazz Festival . She also toured with James Spaulding and with the Octet by David Murray .
