background

Even a member of a green party, Byrne emphasized that the movement was politically independent. "Lisbon is too important to leave the treaty to the politicians."

On October 1, 2009, one day before the vote, Generation Yes had over 5000 registered supporters ("fans") on Facebook . The largest of the citizen groups promoting the treaty was Ireland for Europe .
