The Genoveva fountain with a crowning life-size group of sculptures of Saint Genoveva with a child and a deer is located in Cologne-Mülheim in a green area between Genovevastrasse and Clevischer Ring. It gives its name to Genovevastrasse, the grammar school there (former Lyceum of the city of Mülheim) and the neighboring indoor swimming pool on Bergisch-Gladbacher Strasse.

The fountain system goes back to the initiative of Mülheim city councilor Michael Laufenberg, who was particularly committed to the beautification of Mülheim. He was able to win over the widow of the factory owner Heinrich Martin, co-founder of the Mülheim company Martin & Pagenstecher, for his project to build a well in front of the former high school. Ms. Martin commissioned the Cologne sculptor and church painter Adalbert Hertel , by whom the work of art was completed in March 1914. The Martin family donated it to the city of Mülheim am Rhein, which was still an independent city until March 31, 1914.

The fountain had a raised, chiseled donor inscription on the front of the basin in a now empty field, which can be seen in old photos. It read: "Dedicated to the city of Mülheim am Rhein by Mrs. Heinrich Martin and her sons Gustav (,?) Heinrich and Paul / March 1914"

The fountain was part of the streets newly laid out shortly before the First World War on the former railway site between the old town and the suburbs of Mülheim. The center of the new development was the street of the Clevischer Ring, which was adorned at the ends with a pair of similar fountains, the trade fountain and the shipping fountain. The green space of the Genoveva Fountain in between connected the Clevischer Ring with the new Lyceum building.

The green area and fountain were entered on July 1, 1980 under the address Genovevastraße o. No. In the monuments list of the city of Cologne under no. 654. In August 2015, the Cologne Regional Association of the Rhenish Association for Monument Preservation and Landscape Protection presented the fountain to the press and the public as “Monument of the Month”.

According to the City of Cologne, the fountain was restored and started up again in autumn 2017 with the help of the Wilhelm H. Pickartz Foundation.
