Geospatial

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Geospatial applications are web applications that use geospatial services to display, process or record geospatial data (i.e. spatial information). This new type of information system emerged within the framework of spatial data infrastructures .

Geospatial applications are described by metadata and can, for example, be researched in a metadata information system using the geospatial Web Catalog Service or accessed with a geobrowser . In contrast to known - non-geoservices based - solutions, geospatial applications can process geoservices from a wide variety of providers. Due to this advantage, they can easily be expanded in terms of their spatial extent and subject matter.

Examples

  • DeutschlandViewer - topographic maps from the Bavarian Surveying Administration
  • Geothermal portal - Geothermal maps of the State Geological Services of Germany
  • Geoportal of the city of Mittenwalde - municipal geodata visualization (development plans, statutes, tourism, disaster control, ...)
