Geokrety

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Geokrety ( Greek Geo = "earth", Polish Krety = " mole ") is a service that works in a similar way to tracking travel bugs or GeoLutins . The point is essentially to accompany “travelers” virtually on their way from can to can during geocaching : The registered objects (so-called GeoKrets ) are picked up, taken away and stored by various geocachers. A corresponding log entry is left on the Geokrety.org website. For each GeoKret the itinerary is shown on a map.

description

Any object can be used as a GeoKret . Usually, however, these are small things such as key rings that are then placed in the cans when geocaching. When registering, the owner has to assign a name to his GeoKret and can then think of a mission, e.g. B. "Travel as far as possible" or he can specify a specific country or geocache as a destination. The GeoKret is then assigned a special code. With the registration, an individual website is created for the object on which the movements can be traced and, among other things, the distances are calculated. After registration, a tag with the name, mission, code and instructions for logging must be created. This should then be protected against moisture, for example by laminating it in. GeoKrets are not barter items, which means that finders don't have to place anything in the geocache to take out the GK. In addition, there is no obligation to take a GeoKret with you, so you can simply “discover” it with your code on your individual website.

In order to move or disclose a GeoKret , the tracking code and the new position must be entered. This can be done using a waypoint, coordinates or the geocache name on the assigned website.

Unlike the travel bugs from Geocaching.com, this service is free.

Geokrety.org was launched on October 26, 2007 by a group of volunteers and has been running ever since. According to the current status (June 30, 2014) there are 44,733 registered GeoKrets, which have traveled a total of 48,393,100 kilometers.

Supported databases

Geokrety do not cooperate with any particular geocache database . Users can put the GeoKrets in any cache or take them to completely different locations by simply entering the coordinates. To simplify logging on geokrety.org, the website obtains cache information (e.g. waypoint names, coordinates, descriptions) from many well-known geocaching providers such as Opencaching Network, GeoCaching Australia, GeoCaching Russia, gpsgames.org database (Geocaching and Geodashing), Geocaching Romania, Geotrekking Hungary, geopeitus.ee). For these fully supported platforms, only the code and a waypoint of the cache are required for logging the GeoKret. All other information such as cache name and coordinates are inserted automatically. To put a GeoKret in a cache, which is listed on geocaching.com , the coordinates must be entered manually. However, this can be automated using browser plug-ins for Firefox or Chrome.

Geokrety species

Depending on the subject, GeoKrets can be divided into different types:

  • A traditional GeoKret (e.g. a key fob)
  • A book
  • A CD / DVD
  • A geocoin
  • Human (for users who want to record their movements)
