Georg Ochs
Georg Hermann Alexander Ochs (born July 11, 1886 in Frankfurt am Main ; † September 27, 1971 ) was a German entomologist who specialized in tumbler beetles (Gyrinidae).
His naturalistic inclinations arose from an uncle (Heinrich Ochs) in Kassel ( Wehlheiden ), who had a reputation as an ornithologist. In his publications, Frankfurt and Nieste via Kassel are given as places of origin. He was a manufacturer.
In his publications, Ochs described tumbler beetles from Indonesia, New Guinea, Borneo, New Caledonia, Nepal, Australia, Africa, the Amazon region, Bolivia, Curacao, the Caribbean and French Guinea and a total of hundreds of new taxa . Some tumbler beetles are named after him, such as Gyretes ochsi (Brinck 1944) and Orectogyrus ochsi (Guignot 1938).
From 1920 he was a member of the Senckenberg Natural Research Society . His collection is in the Senckenberg Museum and a smaller regional collection at the Göttingen Zoological Institute. In addition to tumbler beetles, he also collected ground beetles, longhorn beetles and rye beetles.
He was a member of the Insect Science Association in Frankfurt.
