George Johnston Museum

The George Johnston Museum is a museum of almost 300 m² in the Canadian Yukon . It is located in Teslin (at Mile 804 on the Alaska Highway ) in a log cabin and is dedicated to the life of its namesake George Johnston and the Tlingit culture in the Teslin Lake area .

The collection consists of around 1100 exhibits, plus an archive. This includes documents for the construction of the Alaska Highway , the local airfield (Teslin Airport) and a growing collection of photos based on the work of the namesake. His car, a Chevrolet, bought in 1928, is also on display. For this first car in the Yukon, a four-kilometer track was built that later became part of the Alaska Highway, or Johnston drove it over frozen Teslin Lake.

The museum is located two kilometers north of the Nisutlin Bay Bridge, the blue and red signs and the wolf head refer to the moiety of George Johnston.

The museum is run by a group of volunteers, a museologist takes over the scientific management. It is only open from mid-May to September 1st.
