George Muhoho

George Kamau Muhoho (* 1938 ) is a former Kenyan Minister and Director General of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

Life

George Muhoho is a son of Chief Muhoho and his wife Nyokabi, brother of Mama Ngina and brother-in-law of Jomo Kenyattas . At first he was a Catholic priest and studied canon law at the Collegio San Pietro in Rome until 1968 . In 1971 he was appointed as the first black African diplomat to be an attache at the Vatican embassy of the EU in Brussels. In 1972 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. returned to the lay state. He was then responsible for the PR department of UNEP in Nairobi. In 1976 he married the lawyer Jean Njeri Koinange . The marriage had four children.

President Moi appointed the diplomat to his cabinet and successively entrusted him with the posts of Minister of Education, Tourism and Technology. In 1991 he left KANU and became a founding member of the Democratic Party of Mwai Kibaki , of which he is now treasurer. He is also a member of the party's council of elders. In 2004 he was appointed director of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) by Kibaki and was particularly responsible for the development, but also the security of the Kenyan airports. In 2009 he left this post according to schedule and is now retired.
