George Seton, 3rd Lord Seton

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

George Seton, 3rd Lord Seton († September 9, 1513 at the Battle of Flodden Field , Northumberland, England) was a Scottish peer .

He was the son of George Seton, 2nd Lord Seton from his second marriage to Margaret Campbel. When his father died around 1508, he inherited his title of nobility as 3rd Lord Seton . The title was given as Lordship of Parliament in 1448 to his great-grandfather Sir George Setton († around 1479). Since his great-grandfather Sir William Seton († around 1410) called himself Lord Seton as a feudal baron (but not as a peer ) since about 1371 , George Seton is sometimes listed as 3rd, 5th Lord Seton.

He resided in the Seton Palace mansion in East Lothian .

He was a follower of King Jacob IV and took part in his 1513 campaign to England. Like the king himself, he was killed on September 9, 1513 in the devastating defeat of the Scots at the Battle of Flodden Field . His body was brought back home and buried next to that of his father in the collegiate church adjacent to Seton Palace .

Marriage and offspring

No later than January 25, 1507 he was married to Janet Hepburn, daughter of Patrick Hepburn, 1st Earl of Bothwell († 1508), Lord High Admiral of Scotland. He had three children with her:
