The state-recognized School for Games was founded in 2011. As a vocational school, it offers full-time training in various areas of game development as well as workshops on specialist topics. In addition, employee training courses for companies with special training courses are part of the program of the private educational institution. Enrico Rappsilber acts as headmaster and is represented by Daniel Höpfner.

history

The School for Games was founded in 2011 by Felix Wittkopf , Enrico Rappsilber , Uwe Timm and Daniel Höpfner . All four founders previously worked in the games industry in various roles. Participation in the bpw business plan competition was concluded with a 4th place out of over 200 submissions in 2011. With the start of school operations, the School for Games had the status of a notified supplementary school according to the Berlin School Act. The School for Games has had the status of a recognized supplementary school since 2018. This means that there is the possibility of funding through the Federal Training Assistance Act and the KfW Education Loan .

In the following year, the facility received the “Best of 2012” award from Initiative Mittelstand in the field of e-learning for the internally used online campus. Since August 2013 the School for Games has been certified by IFTA AG and from January 2016 it has been certified by proCum Cert according to AZAV. This ensures that jobseekers are integrated into the labor market through retraining measures.

It is an important part of the industry and receives extensive support from it in the form of specialists, technologies and scholarships for young talent. The Hamburg developer InnoGames awarded z. B. in 2014 a full scholarship and the two concept art studios KARAKTER and sixmorevodka each received partial scholarships in the game graphics department. The School for Games presents itself at trade fairs such as Gamescom or the Quo Vadis developer conference.

Training

The training programs have a modular structure based on the ECTS : They contain 12 modules with a total of over 100 courses. These are general and vocational courses. The program ends after at least four semesters or six semesters with the final exams of the training. Upon successful completion of the module and final examinations of the program, participants receive a total of 120 ECTS credits. If the training period is extended, more credit points are awarded accordingly. These credit points can be read and thus recognized by technical colleges and universities.
