George Town (Great Exuma) is the capital of the Exumas and is located on Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas . The Exumas are a chain of islands that stretch for about 100 miles.

The Tropic of Cancer runs right through Georgetown and around 900 people live in this seaport, a favorite place for many yachtsmen.

George Town was founded in 1793 and named after King George III. named by England. The harbor was always very protected by the offshore island of Stocking Island. It is 24 kilometers by road from the Little Exuma bridge to this location. Today it mainly consists of a one-way street that goes around Lake Victoria. The lake is connected to the sea by a 50 m long canal. During the colonial period, English warships were upgraded in the lake, and during World War II there was a small American naval base there. St. Andrew's Anglican Church is over 150 years old.

The Hotel Peace & Plenty was first a warehouse for natural sponges. At the beginning of the last century the slave market was still held there. The bar then served as a kitchen. It was not until 1958 that it was converted into a hotel.

4.5 km west of George Town is the settlement of Hooper's Bay on the bay of the same name. Flamingo Bay, 3 km south of George Town, is a beautiful bathing beach that is also popular with anglers.

The international airport is around 15 km north.

Exuma International Airport (George Town GGT) has many inbound flights from major airlines as well as charter companies and private planes.
