George Walden

George Gordon Harvey Walden (born September 15, 1939 ) is a British civil servant and politician with the Conservative Party .

Life

He went to the Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, London . He later attended Jesus College in Cambridge , the École nationale d'administration in France , Harvard University and the universities in Moscow and Hong Kong . Walden worked for the British Foreign Office from 1962 to 1983 , specifically in the areas of Russia, China and France. Walden represented the Conservatives in the British Parliament between 1983 and 1997 . From 1985 to 1987 he was Minister of Higher Education.

Walden wrote numerous books throughout his life, including his memoir entitled Lucky George . Other major books include Time to Emigrate , New Elites: A Career in the Masses , Who Is a Dandy, and God Won't Save America .
