Georges Matoré
Georges Matoré (born August 8, 1908 , † October 5, 1998 ) was a French Romance scholar and lexicologist .
life and work
Matoré in Lithuania
Matoré studied in Paris at the Institut des langues orientales and from 1938 was a French teacher in Memel , then in Šiauliai . When the Russians approached on September 5, 1940, he remained the only French in Lithuania (out of love for his future wife Ladona), was to become a lecturer at the University of Vilnius at the invitation of Vladimir Georgievich , but was imprisoned and imprisoned on October 20, 1940 was only released on June 23, 1941 thanks to the advance of the Germans. He arrived in Vilnius on July 5th on foot and stayed there (apart from a trip to Paris) until March 20th, 1943. Since the Stalinists threatened to return, he settled in Paris with his Lithuanian wife.

La préface de "Mademoiselle de Maupin". Edition critique (Paris 1946). Georges Matoré was a professor at the Sorbonne. His students include Bernard Quemada and Irène Tamba .
