Archway at the Georgischlössl

The Georgischlössl (also Georgi-Schloss ) is a Tudor-style castle in the village of Ehrenhausen in the market town of Ehrenhausen on the Weinstrasse in Styria . The castle is a listed building .

history

The Georgischlössl in Ehrenhausen is located on a small hill at the beginning of the South Styrian Wine Route . It was built around 160 years ago under Count Attems in the English Tudor style from a small country house. Between 1870 and 1880 the property belonged to the poet Stefan von Milow .

Then the castle came into the possession of Italian, English and Belgian aristocrats alternately until it was used as a home for wounded soldiers during World War II and fell to the British occupation forces after the war. In 1960 a noble wine tavern was opened in the castle .

At the end of the 1990s the tavern was closed and the property was sold. From 2004 it was completely renovated. In addition to visits, the rooms are also rented out for events and seminars. The castle is also very well known as a wedding castle on the South Styrian Wine Route.

The property is owned by the Haring family (2015).

Gate of the old Mur Bridge

The gate system, which connects the Georgischlössl with the associated Reiterturm, comes from the covered Mur Bridge built in 1739 and completely removed in 1901. The portals of the Mur Bridge were removed at that time. The portal from the right bank of the Mur was, as was customary in the historicist era , rebuilt true to the original at the Georgischlössl. The coats of arms on the archway come from the Leslie and Sternberg families .
