Gerasimos Danilatos

Gerasimos Daniel Danilatos or Gerry D. Danilatos (* in Kefalonia ) is a physicist who became known as the inventor of ESEM .

biography

After the earthquake of 1953, Danilato's family emigrated to Patras , where Gerasimos graduated from elementary school and high school. After graduating from high school, he studied at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and graduated with honors in physics. In 1972 he emigrated to Australia, where he married in 1979. As a scientist at the University of New South Wales , he developed the ESEM scanning electron microscope as a continuation of previous attempts by other scientists to examine wet samples . In 2003, his life's work was awarded the Ernst Abbe Award.
