Gerd Michelsen

Gerd Michelsen (* 1948 in Flintbek ) is a German economist and senior professor for "sustainability research" at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg .

Michelsen studied economics at the Universities of Kiel and Freiburg i.Br. and did his doctorate in Freiburg as Dr. rer. pole. His habilitation took place at the University of Hanover . Since 1995 he has been a professor at the University of Lüneburg in the Institute for Environmental Communication. Michelsen played a key role in founding the "Environmental Sciences" department and in setting up a corresponding diploma course (according to the current Leuphana concept, it was a faculty again, and since 2011 the "sustainability faculty").

Gerd Michelsen was one of the Vice Presidents of the University of Lüneburg for studies, teaching and further education (May 2004 to April 2006). He received the BAUM Science Award in 1998. Since 2005 he has held the UNESCO Chair “Higher Education for Sustainable Development”.

Michelsen is a member of the SPD.
