Gerhard Beissel (* 15th century in Aachen ; † around 1493 ibid) was a lay judge and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

The son of the former mayor Gerhard Beissel from the von Heisterbach line, named after the name of their parent company on the Aachener Markt, followed his father into the college of lay judges and was first mentioned as such in 1463. Between 1466 and 1488 he held the office of a town builder and in 1474 he was appointed an alderman . Finally, Beissel was elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen in 1469, 1472, 1474, 1483, 1484, 1487, and 1491 .

Gerhard Beissel was married twice, but this branch of the family died out. The Gerhard Beissel family was a cousin of the Beissel "In den Mart" line, which also had several lay judges as well as the mayor Johann the Elder and his eponymous nephew Johann the Younger in their ranks.
