Live and act

Like his father, the son of the aldermen of the same name had the suffix “von Heisterbach”, which referred to the name of their parent company on the Aachen market. This differentiated them from their cousin line, which had the addition "In den Mart" in their name and also had several lay judges as well as the mayor Johann the Elder and his nephew of the same name Johann the Younger in their ranks.

Gerhard Beissel was listed as a member of the aldermen's college from 1433 and belonged to the city council of Aachen in 1432 and 1437. In the period from 1437 to 1442 he held the office of judge at the Schöffenstuhl as well as the Meiers of Aachen. In addition, he was appointed broadcasting alderman in 1446 and held the honorary post of town clerk for many years. Finally, Beissel was elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen in 1435, 1452, 1455, 1457, 1460 and 1461 .

Gerhard Beissel was first married to Jutta von Bruchhausen and then to Bennyne Beissel, a daughter of Johann Beissel from the cousin line and widow of Daem (Adam) von Walhorn. In addition, a third marriage with a daughter of Adam von Haren, the elder , could have existed, since his sons Gerhard and Frambach are each referred to as Gerhard Beissel's brothers-in-law in several documents. In total, he had four proven children, including the later aldermen and mayor Gerhard Beissel .
