Johann Beissel († around 1440)

Johann Beissel the Elder (* 14th century in Aachen ; † around 1440 there) was aldermen and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

The son of the banker Colyn Beissel and brother of the mayor Colyn Beissel joined the college of lay judges in 1410. In 1428 he was elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen and was a member of the city council between 1432 and 1437.

Johann Beissel's terms of office were unspectacular and without further mandates. He was married to a certain Else, with whom he had sons Colyn and Johann and daughters Nytgen and Drude. The latter married the mayor of lay judges Lambrecht Buck . His nephew Johann Beissel followed him to the college of lay judges and was elected mayor in 1486. The Johann Beissel family was a cousin of the Beissel von Heisterbach family, who also had several lay judges as well as the mayor Gerhard the Elder and his son of the same name, Gerhard the Younger .
