Gerhard Harmannus Janssen , usually short Gerhard H. Janssen or Janssen-Osteel (born February 8, 1914 in Osteel , East Frisia ; † February 25, 2005 there ) was a German painter . He became known for his oil paintings with views from the East Frisian area and the publication of the East Frisian calendar.

Janssen began training as a painter in 1930 after leaving school. In 1937 he passed the master's examination as the youngest master painter in East Frisia. During the Second World War, he initially served as a soldier and, after being released from military service due to illness, attended the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg. After the end of the war, Janssen could no longer work in the painting trade for health reasons and settled as a freelance painter in Osteel. Numerous exhibitions of his work took place from 1948 until after his death.

Janssen had been married to Johanne Dasenbrook from Osteel since 1942. They both had a daughter together. On his 75th birthday in 1989, his home community, Osteel, made him an honorary citizen.
