Gerhard Lewe, the elder
Gerhard Lewe (* 14th century ; † around 1384 in Aachen ) was a lay judge and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .
Live and act
Gerhard Lewe first appeared in a document when he was elected to the city council in 1364. In 1374 he was admitted to the college of aldermen and finally elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen in 1380 and 1383 .
In his last term of office, Gerhard Lewe, together with his mayor colleague Johann von Pont and the stale mayors Reinhard van Moirke, the Elder, and Heinrich van der Linden, headed the urban troops, which were linked to the allied troops of the city of Cologne , Archbishop of Cologne Friedrich III. von Saar Werden and Duke Wilhelm II of Jülich and Geldern belonged to the besiegers of Dyck Castle as a result of a resolution of the Maas-Rhine Peaceful Alliance. This accused Gerhard von Dyck of robber baronism , and the allied troops forced him to destroy the stronghold at that time after the successful capture of his castle.
Gerhard Lewe was married to Jutta Colyn, with whom he had four children, including the later mayor of the same name, Gerhard Lewe, the younger .
