Christian Lewe (also: Christianus dictus Leo, Kyrstion Lewe ; * around 1300 ; † between 1372 and 1375 in Aachen ) was aldermen and mayor of the imperial city of Aachen .

Live and act

Christian Lewe was first mentioned in a document in 1331 as a member of the college of aldermen and in 1338 and 1364 as a council member. In 1349 Lewe was appointed Christoffel of the Sandkaultor County and elected mayor of the Free Imperial City of Aachen in 1346 and 1361 .

Between 1344 and 1351 Lewe was involved in numerous negotiations as a representative of Aachen in the preparations for the introduction of the Maas-Rhine peace alliance , which came into force from 1351 between Kurköln and the Duchy of Brabant as well as the cities of Aachen and Cologne . Lewe was a member of this from 1353 to 1359 and again from 1364 to 1369 as one of Aachen's three jurors. In this function Lewe was involved in the siege of Gripekoven Castle in 1353/1354 as a representative of the city together with the allied troops of the alliance . From this castle, renegade knights are said to have carried out their raids and supported an uprising of the Jülich knighthood, which put the reputation and the existence of the Duchy of Jülich into question. After a long period of siege, which finally ended with the handover of the castle and the granting of free withdrawal of the besieged, it was then razed to the ground.
